If you landed here then, hi! I haven't uploaded any photographs of terrariums yet and I'm using this page to keep track of a moss and liverwort growing experiment. If this is of interest to you, then check back later to see what happened.
23/07/22 Experiment in growing tamarisk moss and liverwort
Method; 4 x Small 4 oz clear plastic containers with lids, added a light layer of my terrarium mix (4 parts compost, 1 part coco fibre, and 1 part chopped sphagnum moss) - Soaked through with day old tap water - Added 1 piece of moss in 3 containers, 1 piece of liverwort in the last container and fixed lid.
Day 1: The 4 containers are placed in the corner of a window sill that receives no direct sunlight.
4 more pots were made, this time 2 of the pots had the tamarisk moss cut into tiny pieces and pressed into the mixture that was soaked with a 5% nitrogen solution rather than just water.
2 pots contain 1 piece of liverwort each, placed in the centre of the pot and soaked with the same nitrogen solution.
23/07/22 Experiment in growing moss on surfaces
Method: I mixed a solution in a jar of 5% nitrogen (cheap supermarket plant food), a few tablespoons of pond water, and a teaspoon of table sugar. Chopped some tamarisk moss into tiny pieces using a sharp knife and mixed it in with the solution.
I painted the solution on a 2 x limestone rock surfaces and placed them into a sealed plastic container, 1 x slate, and 1 x wood. The pots were placed a window out of direct sunlight.
