Snails are wonderful creatures that we all take for granted, they're just, well, there. Move a plant pot in your garden and there's a snail, check under your window sill and there's a snail, mow your lawn and there's a snail. We've all seen one many times, but how many people can say they've actually looked at one? I could argue here that they're a lot cuter than cats, but as this is the internet and a statement like that can get you murdered in your sleep, I'll just leave this photograph here;
I like to keep my snails in a natural environment when studying their behaviour, mating rituals etc. This very large tank housed 3 adult snails, Brian, Ripple, and Ross.
During the time I spent researching these guys they produced well over 1,000 eggs between them.
Snails reproduce in a very strange way and it is possible that both parties become pregnant after sex! Life would be very different if this happened to us...
Cute picture of my favourite snail (psst, don't tell the others), Grace. We've had this one now for several years, and she lives quite happily in her custom made mossarium (Although, that fern has seen better days).
My wife has taken over the care of the snails now, as I've had to take a back seat and concentrate on the other animals.
